Ty’s Obituary:
Tyrone “Ty” Omer Scheffler, son of Omer and Ruth (Krantz) Scheffler, was born on December 2, 1938, in rural Tennant, Iowa. He attended Tennant schools through the tenth grade and then began helping his grandfather on the farm. Upon the opening of Harlan Manufacturing in Harlan, Iowa, Ty began his 30-year career as a welder and fabricator for the company. He then worked as an over-the-road truck driver for nearly 20 years. In the early 1970s, Ty started a garbage hauling business; the business was eventually sold and became R&S Waste Systems of Defiance, Iowa.

On May 27, 1957, Ty married Karen Joan Olson. Although they later divorced, they remained the proud parents of five sons.

Ty built and raced stock cars during his younger years. He later enjoyed gardening and fishing. Time spent with his grandchildren and other family members was quite special to him.

    To the family of Tyrone,
Our deepest sympathies are with you during this difficult time. Tyrone and Sandy welcomed us with open arms as neighbors when we moved to our house on Fir Road. Tyrone adopted our dog Jack and welcomed him into his yard as if he were his own. He welcomed our children and lovingly sat with them visiting and listening to their stories. Even listened to them as they proudly played their school band instruments for he and Sandy. Tom and I enjoyed our visits on the front steps and looked forward to our “waves” as we drove by. We were sad to see him and Sandy move to Irwin, but thought it might be ok to be “in town” rather than out in the country during winters. We’re so sorry we didn’t keep better in touch once you moved. That will be our regret! Know that our hearts are broken and he will be missed by our family! May you all find peace in loving memories during these difficult days and months to come!
    All our love!
Tom and Kris Kurtz, Thomas Jr. and Secilia
