Laura Hansen Anderson, the daughter of Ole Jensen and Elna Marie (Hansen) Bjornsholm, was born on November 26, 1926, in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended Omaha Public schools and graduated from Omaha North High School in 1944. During World War II, Laura served as a Red Cross Volunteer. She became a department manager at Brandeis Department Store in Omaha, and later she ran the Ben Franklin store in Missouri Valley, Iowa, for 15 years. Laura became the Activity Director at the Westmont Nursing Home in Logan, Iowa, a position she held for seven years; she retired in 1992.
Laura lived on the family farm located five miles west of Beebeetown, Iowa, for more than 40 years before moving to Minden, Iowa, in November 2010.
As a girl, Laura was active in the Girl Scouts. As an adult, she enjoyed reading, spinning wool, and clowning, especially in parades and at other events. A member of the Omaha Weavers Guild, she was a good artist who collected antiques, including spinning wheels.
Laura H. Anderson died on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, at the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 6 days.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one daughter, Kristine E. Bailey of Minden, Iowa; one grandson, Rob Anderson of Missouri Valley, Iowa; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Bailey of Omaha, Nebraska; and other relatives and friends.
No visitation or services are planned. Ashes will be buried in the Spring Well Danish Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at burmeisterjohannsen.com.
