Kathryn Ann Martin, daughter of Rasmus and Harriet (Graft) Petersen, was born on January 1, 1931, in Pacific Junction, Iowa. She attended country school at Folsen School for eight years. The family then moved to rural Missouri Valley, Iowa, and Kathryn attended Beebeetown High School, Beebeetown, Iowa, and graduated with the Class of 1949.

Kathryn married Rockford “Rocky” Perry Martin on January 22, 1953 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1956, the couple moved to a farm west of Shelby, Iowa, and they lived there until 1984, when they moved into their new home just down the road from the farm. Kathryn and Rocky retired in 1992. Following Rocky’s death on June 26, 2009, Kathryn remained in her own home until June 2016, when she became a resident of Little Flower Haven in Earling, Iowa.

Kathryn was a member of the Shelby United Methodist Church in Shelby, Iowa. She loved working in her garden and flower beds. Kathryn helped Rocky with the farming; she also later helped Wayne as needed. Family was very important to her, and she enjoyed watching the grandchildren in their school sports and activities. The song “Somewhere My Love” was special to Kathryn and Rocky, and she often refered to it as “our song”.

Kathryn A. Martin died on Friday, January 12, 2018, at Little Flower Haven in Earling, Iowa. She had reached the age of 87 years and 11 days.
