Talena Frances Andersen, daughter of Alfred Reinhart and Arletta Floy (Randall) Williams, was born on January 6, 1925, in Atlantic, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic.
Talena married Arthur Roger Andersen on September 2, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa; to this union, three children were born. Talena and Art farmed south of Walnut, Iowa, before moving back to Shelby County in 1958. They retired from farming in 1990 and moved into Harlan. Following Art’s death on September 29, 2002, Talena remained in her own home until June 2017, when she became a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan.
Talena was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa. She was active in her younger days, playing cards, gardening, and working for the church groups and church office. She loved baking and was a good cook. Talena truly enjoyed sharing time with her family. She loved violets and looking at pictures Art had taken.
Talena F. Andersen died on Monday, January 8, 2018, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having reached the age of 93 years and 2 days.
Talena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Roger Andersen; one sister, Florence Butler; one granddaughter, Kathy Jo Andersen; and one great-granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Mormann. She is survived by two sons, Arthur C. (Linda) Andersen of Harlan, Iowa, and Roger (Laurie) Andersen of Atlantic, Iowa; one daughter, Linda (Kenneth) Woltmann of Grimes, Iowa; one brother, Floyd (Anne) Williams of Atlantic, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Warner of Harlan, Iowa, and Marilyn Miles of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Julie (Steve) Livingston of Harlan, Iowa, Tammy (Jeff Cox) Pond of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mark (Denise) Woltmann of Long Beach, California, Sheri (Alex) Schroeder of Polk City, Iowa, and Allison (Brad) Mormann of Anamosa, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren, Brandon Pond, Alex Livingston, Nicholis Livingston, McKenzie Livingston, Holly McKean, Luke Mormann, Sophia Mormann, Rachael Schroeder, and Zack Schroeder; two great-great-granddaughters, Sophia McKean and Gemma Pond; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Phillip Nielsen officiating. Marge Ahrenholtz served as the pianist, and the soloist was Linda Mosher. The honorary casket bearers were Laverne Koch, Jack Randall, Raymond Andersen, and C.R. Andersen. Active casket bearers were Ed Andersen, John Williams, Tom Williams, Dennis Warner, Larry Andersen, and Dennis Backhaus. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery, Harlan, Iowa.
