Thomas and Marilyn divorced in 1984. On June 4, 1988, Marilyn married Gail Earle Schnack at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. Marilyn worked as a bookkeeper for Harlan Manufacturing and Harlan Builders for many years; she retired in July 2013.

Marilyn was a long-time member of the Harlan Golf and Country Club in Harlan. She enjoyed traveling south for the winter, golfing, and playing Bingo. Time with family was precious to Marilyn; she especially loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
